Your dentist would like specialist advice about the position of your teeth.

Milngavie Orthodontics is located at 13 Main Street, Milngavie (opposite Greggs). To enter the building please press the buzzer for Milngavie Orthodontics and a member of our reception team will invite you inside.

You will be seen by one of our specialist orthodontists who will examine your teeth, assess how they fit together (your bite) and take some measurements. They may also take an x-ray of your teeth if this is indicated. The orthodontist will then discuss what they have found during the examination and whether they would recommend braces or any other treatment.

In some cases it may be too early to consider orthodontic treatment and your orthodontist may arrange to see you again in a few months time, to allow further growth and dental development. 

To qualify for NHS orthodontic treatment certain criteria must be met. If you do not meet these criteria your orthodontist will discuss self-funding options.

We will arrange for you to come back to have some records taken (photographs, a scan of your teeth and an x-ray). We will then send the records to the health board to apply for approval for NHS funding, this process can take around 12 weeks. Once we hear back from the health board we will book you in to have your braces fitted.

Once your braces have been fitted, we will see you to check and adjust them every 6-8 weeks. These appointments are between the hours of 08:45 and 16:15, Monday to Friday.

This can vary depending on your individual treatment plan, but generally treatment takes 18-24 months. At the end of treatment you will be provided with retainers which you must wear at night time for the rest of your life, to ensure your teeth remain straight.
